Penang has it all – from historical sites with unique pre-war dated architectures to rolling hill landscapes and coastal beaches, the island is popularly known as “The Pearl of the Orient”. Penang is the most urbanised state and most densely populated in Malaysia, yet it is the most picturesque island.
Although Penang island is small, rapidly being developed and modernised, there are parts of the island that are still layback and untouched – quiet beaches, quaint fishing villages, rice fields, fruit plantations, farms and food production companies belonging to the same family for generations.
If you have enough exploring the city of George Town and shopping malls to cool down in the afternoon, a good way to finish your trip is to explore the island with a local host off the beaten track from the main tourist attractions.
